CTI Expands Thermochromic Colors for Plastics Industry

Indicators Display Unique “Hot & Cold” Advisories to Consumers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado U.S.A. - - Chromatic Technologies (CTI) has announced the availability of all Pantone® colors for the company’s new “PowerCapsulesTM” thermochromic plastic technology. The new CYMK colors, as well as the PowerCapsules technology itself, are manufactured in the United States.

PowerCapsules were unveiled by CTI in November 2014 and are the result of the company’s breakthrough chemistry which includes thermochromic color concentrate pellets. PowerCapsules offer customers the benefits of an enviable let down ratio, temperature indication, and powered by new technology that drives vibrant color and UV stability, all combined with U.S. based manufacturing.

“This explosion of color capabilities is an exciting addition to the plastics industry,” explained Patrick Edson, chief marketing officer for CTI. “Manufacturers throughout the world can now provide a unique dimension to their products in whatever shade or tint they want the colors they seek are literally unlimited.

” CTI’s PowerCapsulesTM have been qualified in such popular applications as polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE). PowerCapsules serve to enhance the consumer experience across a diverse range of products including QSR utensils, soda closures, ice cream spoons, baby bath toys, coffee lids and soup bowls. Among plastics utensils, an estimated 40 billion are used every year in the United States alone. PowerCapsules are also recyclable and are free of bisphenol A/‘BPA free.

Since brands sell products in plastic, aluminum, cardboard, glass, shrink, labels and cups, they need suppliers who can take an idea and stretch it across any packaging format and support it globally. “We know that brands are very frustrated with the suppliers who only offer a solution for a single packaging format. This is a big hole in the market until we succeeded with PowerCapsules,” Edson continued.

In the United States alone, plastics comprise the third largest manufacturing industry with a volume over $374 billion dollars annually. The U.S. plastics industry employs nearly 900,000 individuals. Additionally, over 33 percent of plastics in the United States today are earmarked for packaging applications (making plastics the largest market). Domestic demand is expected to increase, while in Europe, packaging accounts for nearly 40 percent of plastics demand.
